Celine Dion, the world-famous French-Canadian singer/songwriter has been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome. Celine Dion, the five-time Grammy award winner, recently posted on Instagram a video about her condition. She also said that she would not be able go through with her 2023 tour. The singer claimed that her neurological disorder affects her singing.

What is Stiff Person Syndrome?

Stiff person syndrome is an neurological disorder that is extremely rare. It can cause painful muscle spasms. The symptoms are triggered by many factors, including cold temperatures, sudden movements, loud noises, or stress. John Hopkins Medicine has defined Stiff Person Syndrome. Scientists say they do not know what the exact cause of this condition could be. The symptoms and characteristics are similar to those of auto-immune disorders.

Scientists still don’t know what causes this condition. Scientists speculate that an autoimmune reaction in the brain and spinal cord could trigger it. The symptoms of this condition are often mistaken for multiple sclerosis or Parkinson’s, fibromyalgia and psychosomatic illnesses.

Who is at greater Risk?

Experts say that the diagnosis of this disease can take up to seven years after symptoms have first appeared. It is possible that the symptoms can vary from person to person, and this could also affect their prognosis. It is known that neurological diseases get worse over time. As the disease advances, symptoms can also get worse. Patients will have difficulty doing basic physical exercises such as walking and moving. The condition is also not curable. Experts say that some people are more susceptible to this condition. Women, for example, are at a higher risk.
