First AI-Guided Colonoscopy Trial Driven by 5G Conducted in India

BhartiAirtel conducted the trial in collaboration with Apollo Hospitals and HealthNet Global. AWS, Avesha, and AWS also participated. The team reported on Thursday that the use of Artificial Intelligence on Airtel’s 5G technology, with its ultra-low latencies and high processing abilities, resulted in the detection of colon carcinoma with greater accuracy.

The diagnosis of colon cancer is now easier and quicker

According to the current protocol, colon carcinoma is detected by colonoscopy proceduree. This is a manual process that requires a lot of time and attention from medical professionals. The procedure uses a flexible, light tube that has a camera, light and tools on one end. These are used to collect samples in order to identify an infection polyp. The procedure is not only long but also uncomfortable for both the patient and the doctor or nurse who must perform it. It takes between 30 and 40 minutes for each case.

The image processing in an AI-guided procedure for colonoscopy happened without any delay, even when the doctor moved the scope to the correct part of the colon. This technology provides physicians with an “extra set of eyes”, improves polyp detection rates, and saves lives.

Avesha edge’s inferencing application on AWS platforms processed the data in real-time, ensuring analysis closer to endpoints. AI-assisted Colonoscopy polyp detection trial will improve the quality of patient care and accuracy of detection rates, according to experts.

Who should have a colonoscopy in India?

All men and women over 45 years old are advised to undergo colonoscopy procedures in order to detect cancer early and prevent it. Solutions built on AI and 5G are essential in India where there is a large target population. This will help doctors provide quality care to as many people as possible. By assisting with timely and accurate diagnoses, 5G, Edge Computing and Artificial Intelligence will improve patient outcomes.

Dr. Sangita Reddy added that AI improves physician accuracy by enhancing the doctor’s ability of detection. Early detection of polyps and their removal can prevent them from becoming cancerous.
