Report Warns of India Facing Unprecedented Heat Waves Pushing Human Survivability Limits

India experienced a record-breaking heatwave in 2022. The country’s highest temperature was 46 degrees Celsius.

A recent report from the World Bank warns that India will be among the first to experience extreme heatwaves, which will exceed the limit of human survival. The report titled Climate Investment Opportunities in India’s Cooling Sector revealed India has been experiencing higher temperatures than usual for several years.

What does breaking human survivability mean? This term is used to refer to the rule-of-thumb. According to the rule of thumb, humans can survive for 3 minutes without oxygen, 3 days without drinking water and 3 weeks without eating. However, there are some exceptional cases where people have survived up to 9 days without water. India experienced a record-breaking heatwave in 2022. According to the most recent data, this was the first time in Indian history that a spring had such high temperatures. The country’s highest temperature was 46 degrees Celsius.
